Like Crazy

dir. Paolo Virzì 2016 Italy, France 116 min.
Two quite different women escape a mental institution to see Tuscany in a stolen car and get to know each other.

Beatrice (Valeria Bruni Tedeschi) is a talkative manipulator who styles herself as a millionaire revolving in upper class circles. Donatella (Micaela Ramazzotti, privately Virzì's wife) is a sensitive introvert with a tattooed and fragile body who hides a dark secret about her past. In Paolo Virzì's comedy, these two patients of a "therapeutic center for women with mental problems" will be united by a friendship. One afternoon they decide to escape and seek happiness and love in the free world of "sane" people.

This crossover between "Thelma and Louise" and "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" was a sensation of the Cannes Film Festival, where the film was screened as part of the Quinzaine des Réalisateurs section. The film won statuettes of one of the most important Italian film awards Nastro d'argento (Silver Ribbon), awarded by critics and journalists, in five categories.
